The car had been hesitating a bit with initial response lag. It was diagnosed by my mechanic as the accelerator pump. Since this is not a part sold separately (only in rebuild kits) I forked over the 30 some odd dollars for the kit and performed a minor rebuild. I pulled the top off the carb, replaced the main gasket, unscrewed the pump assembly, (careful not to knock the float out of adjustment) then reassembled. Since I was there I decided to replace the choke gasket at the recommendation of the parts guy that sold me the kit. To my surprise when I took it apart, oil dripped out of the choke assembly. I wiped it out and reassembled a bit perplexed. My only thought is the turbo is bypassing oil into the vacuum lines. Will have to inquire the car gods about this one.
All in all pretty easy but have not been able to fine tune the cold idle/choke setting. the hesitation is gone which was the main point and I feel somewhat accomplished.
